Engage: creating partnership across boundaries

Engage is a Leadership Development Programme designed to break down the ‘silos’ in your organisation. It equips you participants with the skills to look beyond their ‘patch’ and take personal responsibility for engaging in rewarding relationships with others in your organisation no matter their title or position.
Overview
The key to employee engagement lies in building great relationships and partnerships up, down and across your organisation. However, standing in the way of relationships developing is a lack of understanding and appreciation of how our position in the system (your organisation) influences behaviour.
By giving your participants the understanding of what it is like to exist at every level of your organisation – not just their own – Engage forces them to look beyond their own ‘world’ and equips them with the leadership strategies needed to build partnerships across organisational boundaries.
Engage achieves the following for organisation:
- Gets everyone to take ownership for organisational performance.
- Increases employee engagement!
- Removes organisational silos that stand in the way of effective cross organisational partnerships.
- Helps participants avoid the destructive behaviours that silos can ‘breed.’
- Gets participants to look beyond their ‘patch’ and gain a ‘big picture’ (strategic) focus.
- Provides participants with the leadership strategies required for building partnership and great relationships across your organisation.
How does it work?
Engage is a two day Leadership Development Programme. It is specifically designed for organisations, departments or teams looking to immerse participants from all levels in a Leadership Training experience.
The centrepiece is a real business simulation where participants are ‘born’ into a role as a ‘top’, ‘middle’, ‘bottom’, or ‘customer’ and interact in a fast paced business scenario. This forces each participant to experience your organisation from each level (top, middle, bottom and customer) no matter their ‘real life’ role. Combine this with intervals of solid theory, reflection and leadership strategies and you have a powerful intervention that enables your participants to get the ideas out of their heads and into their guts.
But it’s not just a role play. In fact the entire second day of the workshop is used to bring the learning’s from the simulation back to your organisation, department or team. In an expertly facilitated environment all your participants – regardless of position or title – will work on a predetermined organisational objective. Incorporating their learning’s from the first day as well as a new appreciation of the role and influence they have in your organisation you’ll see your people work together like never before.

How is it different?
It’s not about incentives and rewards
Most engagement initiatives (incentives, rewards etc.) fall short of the mark
because they focus only on individuals. Engage is different! It brings all parties to
the table and tackles engagement by showing your people how they can master
the system of which they are apart.
Engage does not require you to implement any personnel or structural
changes
It simply improves the relationships in your organisation creating a work
environment in which people are more engaged.
It’s not just theory
Participants will be involved in real life simulation that forces them to experience an organisation from all
perspectives – "Top", "Middle", "Bottom" and "Customer". They directly experience the financial / emotional traps and
dilemmas faced in a very real way.
You can involve participants from every level of your organisation
This workshop is not about controlling the behaviours of your employees. It empowers even the lower levels
(Bottoms) to take a leadership stand. Your employees will see the “Big Picture” and realise their contribution to
the strategic direction of your organisation.

What Others Say
Was I nervous about taking so many people out of the field for a couple of days? Sure! Was it worthwhile? Absolutely! It (Engage) has changed the game already . In today's environment, we are all thirsty for ways to better perform as a business. Engage provides a critical way to achieve better alignment, better performance, and better lives for all of us. Game on!
Tim Ebbeck, President and Managing Director, SAP Australia New Zealand
I really think that the program
is outstanding. The sales
presentation that leads
you to the program doesn’t
convey just how powerful the
program really is. The program
exceeded everybody’s expectations based on
what we thought would happen.
Merylee Crockett, HR Director, Alleasing Finance Australia Ltd
Paul - as usual you made us
all think. We really value The
Human Enterprise’s input and
believe we are all improved
by the experience both
corporately and personally.
Garry Gerstle, Managing Director, Man Investments
It’s easy for people to loose
sight of the bigger picture
and how they can relate
to each other, the business
and customers in a more
empowered, positive fashion.
We need to fi nd a way to break down the
boundaries and create a more interdependent
environment... I now see people making a
conscious choice of how they react. It (the
workshop) has created a more positive and
empowered environment.
Judy Quirk, IT Director, Unilever Australasia
Typically our staff can be
a bit apprehensive, even
cynical prior to these sorts
of sessions. As the workshop
progressed, this attitude was
quickly replaced with cautious
participation and soon after that, everyone
became fully engaged in exploring the issues
raised.
Matthew Wilson, Human Resources Manager, Australian Jockey Club
The Human Enterprise has
exceeded our expectations.
We had two excellently
facilitated days where we
learnt how better to understand
each others pressures and
challenges, no matter what level in the overall
department. Now, back at work, everyone
in our departments are starting to introduce
what we have learnt. We have a new common
vocabulary. There is a renewed sense of
potential within the overall team and a feeling
of greater optimism.
Frederique Hull, Maketing Director, Household, Reckitt Benckiser
Paul led the workshop with
passion. He communicates
extremely well, got the
engagement needed and
presented an ongoing
framework to provide the
potential for lasting benefit rather than just
a short lived boost. Several months down
the track people are collaborating more,
using techniques and language making the
investment we made worthwhile.
