One of your roles as a leader is to develop the other leaders around you. This should be your legacy. And one of the main ways of doing this is through coaching.
In this video, I outline the main outcomes to aim for as a coach, either internally or externally.
And remember when asking about “the problem”, make sure you ask what the “REAL” problem is because so often we are presented with the gap or the symptoms, not the real cause.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention in the video another good question…
“How is the problem being managed?”
This beautifully leads to the last question regarding ownership.
Have fun. Be proactive. Be an unreasonable friend in your questioning.
Enjoy the video.
Enjoy the video and share it with any leaders you know are passionate about growing their coaching skills.
BEFORE YOU WATCH THE VIDEO – A gentle reminder – due to the many requests I get for support of all types, this year we are introducing “Mentoring with Mitch”. Every fortnight, I’ll be fielding specific questions from leaders like yourself and posting the answers as videos. If it relates to management, any facet of leadership, teamwork, engagement, leading at home or in the community, we want to hear it from you: Submit your questions here
The Heart of these questions come from the seminal text Flawless Consulting by Peter Block. We have a whole module on Coaching available in our leadership Development programme Basecamp: Leadership Essentials.
